About us.

Hello & welcome to traveljunkies

Who are we?

traveljunkies is a family business which I run with my wife Maureen and our daughter Alison. Maureen & I live in the UK and Alison lives in Australia.

Without boring you with our life histories, we believe it’s important you know who we are before you spend your valuable time with us.

Cliff at Oktoberfest, Munich, Germany

I’m Cliff and after a working for nearly 30 years with IBM I left to work independently for a few years until I semi-retired in 2001. Since then I’ve continued to develop traveljunkies, first as a hobby and now as a business. My hobbies are travel of course, golf (now that I’m past playing squash), and until recently I was Chairman of a registered charity for people with learning disabilities. Nothing very exciting has happened to me although Maureen & I nearly got thrown out of bed in Queenstown, New Zealand in October 2007 when an earthquake measuring 6.7 hit the area at 1.30 in the morning.

Maureen landing on Mission Beach, Queensland, Australia

Maureen began her working career at a Mechant Bank moving on to become the Personal Assistant to a director of Mobil Oil Company in London. After bringing up two daughters she returned to work running the office for a friend who is a cabinet maker. Maureen has also spent many years on the charity committee leaving little time for other hobbies although she did step out of a plane at 14,000 feet a few years ago and after free-falling and then floating over the ocean, she landed gently on a beautiful beach in Queensland, Australia. I hasten to add she was strapped to a qualified jump master at the time.

Alison after another exhilarating solo jump

Alison left college to become a veterinary nurse in the UK before moving to Australia in 2000, where she set up and ran businesses in the travel & tourism industry in North Queensland. These included an Information Station/Internet Cafe, a water sports business running jet ski tours around Dunk Island which unfortunately suffered when Cyclone Larry destroyed the resort in March 2006, and a bar & restaurant in Mission Beach which was sold when she decided to go back to her first love, working with animals. She recently moved from the tropical north to Coffs Harbour in NSW where she is now a veterinary nurse again, which she combines with her work for traveljunkies. This leaves little time for hobbies apart from walking her dogs but she is a qualified skydiver and looks forward to the time when she can jump out of planes again.
Alison has travelled extensively and while driving across Canada in 2007 she found it difficult to get up-to-date regional information on accommodation, tours & attractions etc. and this prompted us to re-launch traveljunkies.

A few things about traveljunkies.

We don’t list our email address. Like many businesses we risk getting flooded with spam so we handle all communication through our Contact Us page.

We don’t list our telephone number because we work from home and deal with businesses worldwide and we can’t control when the phone rings. So if you want to talk to us please email us your telephone number and a message and we will happily call you at a convenient time.

We hate spam as much as you do so we will never pass on your details without your expressed permission to do so.

Is there anything else you’d like to know?

Just email us and we will get back to you right away.

Best regards & great travelling

Cliff Chapman
